The Society
The Abbeyfield Society was founded in 1959, in London as an expression of Christian concern for the increasing number of elderly people, who no longer feel able to look after themselves at home.
Since then, a number of voluntarily run, independent, local charities have followed suit and affiliated to a national Abbeyfield Society. The Abbeyfield Tenterden Society is one of them.
Charitable status and non profit making ensure that resident’s charges remain reasonable.
Tenterden has a good variety of shops, library, post office, doctor's surgery, day care centre and six churches of various denominations.
